Mediation

Receiving basic mediation training, Susan became a mediator in January of 1991.  Since this time, Susan has mediated over 2,300 cases in all areas of the law. Some of the cases she has handled involve matters in the areas of:

Susan is not limited to being involved in cases that are on this list only. This list is representative and Susan mediates cases involving nearly any area of the law. She has mediation experience in many complex, high dollar cases and cases involving multiple parties.

In addition to her initial training, Susan completed advanced mediation training in September of 1991 and 1996, along with family law mediation training in October of 1993. She was an adjunct professor, teaching mediation, at the University of Houston Law Center from 1997 to 1993.

Arbitration

Since 1990, Susan  has been acting as an arbitrator, a type of private judge in a wide range of cases. She has been appointed as an arbitrator in over 350  cases, either as a sole arbitrator or on panels of 3 arbitrators. When she has served on a panel, Susan has frequently been selected to act as Chair of the panel. She has experience in arbitrations involving up to 15 parties and in cases with millions of dollars at issue. Susan also serves as a Panel Member on several panels of the American Arbitration Association (AAA), including:

  • Large Complex Case Panel
  • Commercial Panel
  • Employment Panel
  • Construction Panel
  • Consumer Panel

Susan has completed many trainings that enhance her abilities as an arbitrator, including the AAA Construction Industry Arbitrator Training Workshop in 1997, AAA/USTAF Doping Grievance Arbitrator Training in 2000, AAA Mediator Retreat in 2000, AAA Employment Arbitrator II Training in 2002, AAA Arbitrator II Update in 2002, AAA Arbitration Award: Safeguarding, Deciding & Writing Awards in 2004, AAA CRAV/ADR (Center for Responsible Appraisal and Valuation) training in 2005, AAA Chairing an Arbitration Panel: Managing Procedures, Process & Dynamics in 2005, AAA Dealing with Delay Tactics in Arbitration in 2006, and the AAA online arbitration training for specific types of cases in 2007.
