Focused Exclusively on Alternative Dispute Resolution

Susan has over 40 years of legal experience as an attorney, mediator, and arbitrator. She graduated cum laude from Newcomb College of Tulane University In 1971. Susan attended South Teas College of Law and received her J. D. in 1980. She graduated cum laude, ranked first in her class.

Susan became licensed to practice law in the State of Texas in November 1980. She began her career as a briefing attorney for the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston, Texas. In 1981, she began a litigation practice with Foreman & Dyess and thereafter with Hirsch & Westheimer. Susan then established her own firm in 1986 and handled a litigation docket while also conducting mediations and arbitrations.

Susan has been a full-time mediator and arbitrator since 2003. She handles mediations and arbitrations in a wide range of matters, from business and employment law to construction and personal injury cases. She has conducted over 2500 mediations and 400 arbitrations. Susan is an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association on numerous panels and was nominated and selected as a member of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and the National Academy of Distinguised Neutrals.

An Instructor and Trainer

Susan has also had a distinguished career serving as an instructor and trainer in the dispute resolution field. She was an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center where she taught mediation from 1997 to 2003. In addition, Susan was a member of the faculty of Attorney-Mediators Institute from 1993-1998 and trained over 800 attorney-mediators through that program. Susan also was an instructor for the Association of Attorney-Mediators in 1996, 1998, and 1999, conducting advanced mediation training. Susan continues to stay at the forefront of alternative dispute resolution and is a frequent speaker on dispute resolution topics.

Susan is proud to serve her country as a volunteer for Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve, a U.S. Department of Defense agency, mediating cases between National Guard and Reserve troops and their civilian employers. In 2005, Susan was honored in Washington, D. C. with the distinguished Ombudsman of the Year Award for the entire United States for her volunteer service in support of our military, their families, and our employers.
